"I like to please other people with my paintings, but, I must confess, I please myself first. Selling a painting is not my top priority, but, of course, it is gratifying. Most of all, I would like others to enjoy what I have created."
Artist Information
Hal Watts, a retired airline pilot, was inspired to create art after visiting museums and galleries throughout the country. For thirty years he traveled the nation, viewing and appreciating its fine arts. Motivated by what he saw, Hay began taking art instruction from accomplished Monterey-area artist, Anne Dalbey. She encouraged and led him through the primary stages of painting and continues to be a great support figure for him.

In the early 1980's Hal began a weekly class, given by George De Groat, through the extended education program at the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art. De Groat was a local artist and former art instructor at Otis Art Institute in San Diego. He provided a well-rounded education for his students until his death in 1995.

Hal studied with De Groat for more than ten years an, now, paints almost daily, enters exhibitions and attends art critiques. He works in his studio and paints and draws his ideas on canvas.
